 Dew Pond reinstatement

In 2016, an overgrown and silted up dew pond was opened up for wildfowl on the farm, with the removal of undergrowth and saplings prior to dredging of the pond taking place.  The arisings being placed onto the bank in order to regenerate green cover.

Duck and geese were in evidence at the pond once it refilled after winter, and provided much needed watering hole for wildlife generally throughout the summer.  During May 2018 a pair of Mallard ducks were seen nesting on our man made wildfowl refuge islnd in the middle of the pond.

In 2016, we excavated a cut off soakaway to prevent road run off scouring out across one of our 50 acre arable fields just off White Lane.  This involved a 6 ft deep 20' x 10' hole being dug and refilled with clean stone, also using terram as a filter media.  This has prevented further "scour out" and the crops are thriving.

Following harvest, we use the opportunity to repair any damaged or blocked field land drains.  A short window of time between removing the crop and cultivation, prior to drilling takes place allows this work to be done, usually during dry weather and without damage to a standing crop

S E  Water's new 18" water main.  Prior to the installation of the new 18" Water main across the farm, a replacement land drainage scheme was designed and installed by S E Water, in order to accommodate the new pipeline, and not compromise the existing drainage  system.  The land drainage machine is shown in the picture working along side the standing crop.

This shows the area taken to accommodate the new 18" Water Main running from the reservoir on the top of the Hogs Back, towards Ash and Aldershot.  All work completed in the summer of 2016.
